BlueGrit

BlueGrit is a supercomputer located at UMBC in association with the Multicore Computational Center (MC2) which is used with the intent of providing service oriented computational solutions employing multi-core technologies for the optimization of problems in the fields of environmental and geophysical sciences, chemical, aerospace, defense, bio-medical informatics, financial, and event driven simulations and visualizations.

This webpage gives detailed information about BlueGrit's structure, how to become a member of our multicore community and also how to navigate and use the system itself.

The Beginning

BlueGrit was founded by Dr. Milton Halem (see image) with the intention of allowing any individual to easyily and effectively access supercomputing resources. The cluster was started in 19XX as a PowerPC based system with 66 computational processors and has since grown substantially into a one-hundred and forty-two cpu Power PC/Cell Broadband Engine hybrid cluster.

The system is still on its way to being one of the most highly accessable supercomputers of today and is currently in a partnering with IBM, Google ,and UMBC to improve the system as well as accessability to researchers as well as students.
